Mail for iOS: How to get the option to archive or delete messages

If you use a Mail account that supports archiving, such as Gmail or iCloud, the archive button will replace delete in the toolbar when viewing an individual message.

If you still want the option to delete some messages, just long-press on the archive button to get a choice.
